Updated 2015 Defensive Positional Rankings, as of January, 23rd, 2015

Defensive Ends:

1 Leonard Williams*, USC

– Williams has great size, is a solid pass rusher, and a good tackler, he is also versatile, he can play DE and DT, but he makes some silly mistakes, and misses some easy tackles, but I expect him to be the top DE taken in the draft this April.

2 Randy Gregory*, Nebraska

– Gregory has decent speed, is a good pass rusher, a good tackler, a tall edge rusher, and a dynamic pass rusher, but he is a lighter edge rusher, likely a OLB more so than a DE at the next level, but he should be a 1st-round pick, possibly a top 5-10 pick come April..

3 Dante Fowler Jr.*, Florida

– Fowler has good speed, is a good pass rusher, a good edge rusher, has decent size for a 4-3 DE, and is a good tackler,  but he makes some mental errors, but not many negatives at all, he should be a 1st-round pick come April.

4 Shane Ray*, Missouri

– Ray is a dynamic pass rusher, a good tackler, and has good speed, but he is undersized as a DE, so I see him transitioning to a 3-4 OLB spot, but he should be a 1st-round pick come April.

5 Nate Orchard, Utah

– Orchard is a good pass rusher, and a good tackler, a nice tall edge rusher too, but he doesn’t have elite speed, and he is undersized a little bit weight wise, and but if he adds on weight, he should be fine as a 4-3 DE, and be a 1st-round pick come April.

6 Alvin Dupree, Kentucky

– Dupree is a great pass rusher, a sack specialist, has good speed, and is a nice tall edge rusher, but he is a bit undersized to be an NFL DE,  but I expect  Dupree to be an early round pick come April.

7 Danielle Hunter*, LSU

– Hunter is a solid tackler, good pass rusher, a nice tall DE, and a has decent speed, but he is on the light side, likely a OLB in the NFL, and isn’t the fastest edge rusher out there, but he should be a early round pick come April.

8 Owamgbe Odighizuwa, UCLA

– Odighizuwa has decent size for a 4-3 DE, a solid pass rusher, and a solid tackler, but he isn’t the fastest edge rusher, but he should still be a early round pick come April.

9 Mario Edwards Jr.*, Florida State

– Edwards has a solid size frame, is a solid tackler, and a decent pass rusher, but he gets manhandled at times, and is a bit inconsistent at times, but he should still be an early round pick come April.

10 Trey Flowers, Arkansas

– Flowers has solid size for a 4-3 DE, is a solid tackler, and a solid pass rusher, but he is on the slow side a bit, but he should still be a early round pick come April.

 

Defensive Tackles:

1 Danny Shelton, Washington

– Shelton is a big body, a run stuffer, and a good tackler, but he is slow at times, but he should be the 1st DT off the board in April.

2 Eddie Goldman*, Florida State

– Goldman is a huge D-Tackle, a solid tackler, and a great run stuffer, but he does get manhandled at times, and is a slower player, but he should still be a 1st-round pick come April.

3 Arik Armstead*, Oregon

– Armstead has a good size frame, a good pass rusher, and a god tackler, and the only negative is his speed, but I expect him to be a 1st-round pick come April.

4 Malcolm Brown*, Texas

– Brown has great size, a good run stuffer, and a solid tackler, but he is a slower DT, and gets beat by faster players, but he should be a 1st-round pick come April.

5 Michael Bennett, Ohio State

– Bennett has solid size, decent speed, and is a good tackler, but he does get beat by larger offensive lineman, and sometimes is manhandled, but I expect him to be a 2nd-round pick come April.

 

Outside Linebackers:

1 Vic Beasley, Clemson

– Beasley is a good tackler, has good size, and is a good pass rusher, but he doesn’t have elite speed, but he should still be a 1st-round pick come April.

2 Shaq Thompson, Washington

– Thompson has good size, is versatile, played all the field for the Huskies, is a good pass rusher, and a solid tackler, but he doesn’t have elite speed, and gets beat by speedy players at times, but I expect him to be a 1st-round pick come April.

3 Lorenzo Mauldin, Louisville

–  Mauldin  has a solid size frame, is a solid pass rusher, and a solid tackler, but he is on the slower side, but he should be a 1st-round pick come April.

4 Max Valles*, Virginia

– Valles has a solid size frame, is a solid pass rusher, and solid tackler, but he is on the slow side for an edge rusher, but he should still be an early round pick come April.

5 Kwon Alexander*, LSU

– Alexander has solid size, he has decent speed, is a good tackler, and doesn’t give up on plays, but he does get overpowered at times, but he should still be a 2nd-3rd round pick come April.

6 Hau’oli Kikaha, Washington

– Kikaha is a nice tall edge rusher, also a solid pass rusher, and a solid tackler, but he is on the slow side, he should be a early round pick come April.

7 Eli Harold*, Virginia

– Harold is a nice tall edge rusher, a solid tackler, and a solid pass rusher, but does have a problem with getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage at times, but he should still be a early round pick come April.

8 Zach Hodges, Harvard

– Hodges has solid size, is a solid tackler, and a solid pass rusher, but he is on the slow side and gets stuffed at the line of scrimmage at times, but he should still be a early round pick come April.

 

Inside Linebackers:

1 Denzel Perryman, Miami(Fla,)

– Perryman has decent size, is a good tackler, forces turnovers, and doesn’t miss many tackles, but he gets beat by fast backs, and isn’t the fastest out there, but he should be among the top 2 ILBs drafted in April.

2 Benardrick McKinney*, Mississippi State

– McKinney has solid size, has good speed also, is a good tackler, and a hard hitter,  but he isn’t great in coverage, but I expect him to be among the top 2 ILBs drafted in April.

3 Eric Kendricks, UCLA

– Kendricks is a solid tackler, and a hard hitter, but he isn’t the biggest ILB, and doesn’t have the best speed,  but I expect him to be an early round pick in April.

4 Paul Dawson, TCU

– Dawson has really good size, is a hard hitter, and a solid tackler, but he is a bit on the slow side, but not many other negatives, I expect him to be an early round pick come April.

5 Stephone Anthony, Clemson

– Anthony is a great big ILB, good in coverage, and doesn’t miss many tackles, but he gets beat by fast backs, and isn’t the fastest out there, but I expect him to be a early round pick come April.

 

Cornerbacks:

1 Trae Waynes*, Michigan State

– Waynes has good size, is a hard hitter, a god tackler, and a good cover corner, but he gets beat at times, but I expect him to be among the top 2 CBs taken in April.

2 P.J. Williams*, Florida State

– Williams has good size, is a good tackler, good cover cornerback, and a hard hitter, but he struggles in coverage at times, but he should still be one of the 1st 2 CBs taken in April.

3 Marcus Peters*, Washington

– Peters has good size, is a good cover cornerback, and a solid tackler, but he isn’t the fastest CB, he whiffs on some tackles, and had issues at the University of Washington, he got kicked off the football team, but I expect him to be a 1st-2nd round pick come April.

4 Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Oregon

– Ekpre-Olomu is a hard hitter, a decent tackler, and ball hawk, but he tends to get beat against too WRs,  he also commits too mny mistakes, and is an undersized CB, but he should still be a early round pick come April.

5 Alex Carter*, Stanford

– Catrter has good size, us versatile, can play CB, and Safety, and is a solid tackler, but he gets beat at times, and isn’t the fastest CB out there, but he should still be a 1st-2nd round pick come April.

6 Jalen Collins*, LSU

– Collins has great size, is a good cover cornerback, a good tackler, but he isn’t the fastest, and gets beat at times, but I expect him to be a early round pick come April.

7 Quinten Rollins, Miami(Ohio)

– Rollins is a decent sized CB, has good speed, a ball hawk, a good tackler, and a good cover cornerback, but he does get beat at times, and lost in coverage, but he should still be an early round pick come April.

8 Kevin Johnson, Wake Forest

– Johnson has solid size, has good speed, is a ball hawk, a good cover cornerback, and a good tackler, but he gets beat at times, and gets lost in coverage at tomes, but he should still be an early round pick come April.

 

Safeties:

1 Landon Collins*, Alabama

– Collins has good size, is a hard hitter, a solid tackler, and a special teams standout, but he is a bit on the slow side, but he should be the top Safety taken in April.

2 Cody Prewitt, Ole Miss

– Prewitt has great size, is a hard hitter, a solid tackler, and good cover safety, but he is on the slow side, but he should be a early round pick come April.

3 Gerod Holliman*, Louisville

– Holliman has good size, has good speed, is a good tackler, and a hard hitter, but he whiffs at times on tackles, but I expect him to be a early round pick come April.

4 Derron Smith, Fresno State

–  Smith has good speed, is a good cover safety, a good tackler, and a hard hitter, but he is a bit undersized, but he should still be a early round pick come April.

5 Durell Eskridge, Syracuse

– Eskridge has great size, is a solid tackler, and has good speed, but he is does get beat by faster players at time, but he should still be a early round pick come April.
