Overview:

Mata’afa finished his career at Washington State by playing in 37 career games, where he had 121 tackles, 45.5 for loss, and 21.0 sacks. He also had 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumbles recovered. He has good edge rush size, he has great speed, he is a tackling machine, and is very physical. He gets good pressure on the quarterback, and is a good pass rusher. He is also a hard hitter, a defensive play maker, a relentless defender, and a ferocious defender. He also has good instincts, he does not get pushed around that easily at the line of scrimmage, and he uses his speed and strength to get through the offensive line in pursuit of the quarterback. On the other hand, he seems a bit undersized to play defensive end full time, so he may end up being a 3-4 outside linebacker, or a situational edge rusher. With that said, I expect Mata’afa to be late 1st-round, to early 2nd-round pick when it is all said and done.
