Jason’s Official 2018 NFL Draft Scouting Report: USC QB Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold, QB, USC

Scouting Report:

Darnold finished up his career at USC by playing in 27 career games, where he had 549 completions, for 7229 passing yards, with 57 passing touchdowns, and 22 interceptions. He also had 332 rushing yards on 137 carries, and 7 rushing touchdowns. He has really good size, he is accurate for the most part, he has good speed, and is a very mobile quarterback. He is good under pressure, he has good pocket awareness, he has a strong arm, and a good deep ball. He is also a good passing quarterback while on the run. He has the ability to make something out of nothing with his legs, he is a very good running quarterback, and is tough to take down. He also is very patient in the pocket, he waits for someone to get open before throwing the ball, and he does a good job of avoiding defenders in pursuit of him. On the other hand, he has been very inconsistent at times, he played the majority of his time out of the shotgun, and as a RS-Sophomore, he is still very young, and raw. With that said, I view Darnold as a late day 2, to early day 3 pick. But i do expect him to be among the first 4 quarterbacks taken come April.
