Jason’s Official 2018 NFL Draft Scouting Report: San Diego State TE David Wells

David Wells, TE, San Diego State

Scouting Report:

Wells finished his career at San Diego State, where he played in 47 career games, had 38 receptions, for 449 receiving yards, and 6 receiving touchdowns. He has great size, he has good speed, he is a solid pass catcher when called upon, and a good route runner. He is a solid pass blocker, a solid run blocker, and he opens holes up for his backs. He makes defenders miss, he breaks tackles, and is tough to take down. He is a tough nosed player, and he put up good touchdown numbers, despite not being a focal point of the passing game at SDSU. He also gets a nice push on the defensive line when blocking, and he does not get pushed around that easily at the line of scrimmage. On the other hand, he is not known as a pass catching tight end, and while he has good speed, he does not have elite tight end speed, but that does not hurt his game. With that said, I see Wells being a day 3 pick when it is all said and done.
