Jason’s Official 2018 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Memphis ILB Genard Avery

Genard Avery, ILB, Memphis

Scouting Report:

Avery finished his career at Memphis, where he played in 50 career games, had 170 tackles, 45.5 for loss, 21.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 7 pass breakups, 4 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovered. He has good overall size, he has good speed, is a tackling machine, and a sack machine. He has good instincts, and is a tough nosed player. He is a defensive play maker, and a difference maker on defense. He is also a relentless defender, and a ferocious defender. He gets good pressure on the quarterback, and is a good pass rusher. He is a hard hitter, a good cover linebacker, and he is very powerful, and very physical. On the other hand, he is not the tallest linebacker, he has issues with fast backs at times, and while he has good speed, he does not have elite linebacker speed, but that does not hurt his game. With that said, I view Avery as a late day 2, to early day 3 pick when it is all said and done.
