Jason’s Official 2018 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Central Michigan DE Joe Ostman

Joe Ostman, DE, Central Michigan

Scouting Report:

Ostman finished his career at Central Michigan, where he played in 52 career games, had 220 tackles, 45.5 for loss, 26.0 sacks, 3 pass breakups, 8 forced fumbles, and 4 fumbles recovered. He has good edge rush size, he has good speed, is a tackling machine, and a sack machine. He is a defensive play maker, and a difference maker on defense. He is also a relentless defender, a ferocious defender, a tough nosed player, and has good instincts. He gets good pressure on the quarterback, and is a good pass rusher. He is also a hard hitter. He uses his speed to get though, and around the offensive line in pursuit of the quarterback, he gets a good push on the offensive line, and he does not get pushed around that easily at the line of scrimmage. On the other hand, he missed all but 3 games in 2015 due to an injury, and while he has good speed, he does not have elite speed, but that does not hurt his game. With that said, I view Ostman as a day 3 pick.
