Jason’s Official 2018 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Baylor DE K.J. Smith

K.J. Smith, DE, Baylor

Scouting Report:

Smith finished his career at Baylor, where he played in 40 career games, had 139 tackles, 27.0 for loss, 12.0 sacks, 1 pass breakup, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumbles recovered. He has good edge rush size, he has good speed, and is a tackling machine. He gets good pressure on the quarterback, and is a good pass rusher. He is also a hard hitter, and a very relentless defender. He uses his speed to get around the Tackle in pursuit of the ball carrier, he also plows, and bull rushes his way through the offensive line in pursuit of the ball carrier. On the other hand, while he has good speed, he does not have elite edge rush speed, but that does not hurt his game. With that said, I view Smith as a late round pick.
